THE SACRAMENTS
Baptism & Communion
Just some water, just a simple meal of bread and juice, but for us in the United Church of Christ, what is simple means much more. We celebrate two sacraments. One is Baptism. The other is Holy Communion, which is often called the Lord’s Supper or Eucharist. Sacraments are our ritual acts during worship life when the Holy Spirit uses water, bread, and wine (or grape juice, in our church) to make visible the grace, forgiveness, and presence of God in Christ.
Through water at baptism, God embraces you — no matter who you are — and brings you into Christ’s Church. You become vital not only to a local church, but the wider Church. You share in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. The church also promises to love, support, and care for you throughout your whole life. Baptized, you now participate fully in the life of the Church and God’s realm. While we typically baptize infants, anyone who desires to participate in baptism may do so. To schedule a baptism, please contact the Senior Minister.
At Holy Communion, we share a simple meal of bread and the cup. We celebrate an open communion table and all are welcome to experience the presence of Christ. Together, around God’s welcome table, we experience our oneness in Christ, hope for a time when all will be fed, and anticipate the fullness of God’s love and justice throughout creation.
Weddings
Congratulations on your decision to marry! A wedding ceremony is an act of Christian worship. The Senior Minister can officiate the ceremony or a couple can select someone of their choice. Please be in touch with the church office to find available dates for the rehearsal and the wedding. Do this as far ahead of your wedding as possible, especially if you are considering the spring or fall. We recommend securing dates at the church before securing your reception venue. The church office will also be able to provide more information about wedding policies and fees.
Funerals & Memorial Services
Please contact the Senior Minister to schedule funeral and memorial services. The staff at the church will help you plan a service to honor and celebrate your loved one.
The church holds the title to sixteen cemetery burial sites in Norbeck Memorial Park for use by church members. View more information about the burial plots.
For inquiries about the burial plots, please contact the church office.
